Speaker 1

The company was founded in 1998 providing pressure vessel inspection services.

An opportunity arose to carry out more economical inspection, service and recertification of LP Gas tanks in the field.

At that time, for a tank to be recertified on customer premises, the equipment and personnel to do the work included:

  1. A tanker (with company or contractor driver) for storage of the LP gas whilst the service and recertification work was occurring
  2. A gas fitter with a compressor trailer for transfer of the product and service of the pressure vessel and
  3. A qualified pressure vessel inspector to provide the inspection and statutory documentation.

This was an extremely costly exercise, particularly in the outback.

In 1989, Gas Equipment Solutions constructed a tanker that included a transfer compressor and a transfer pump with dedicated hose reels for liquid and vapour. The pressure vessel inspector obtained both his dangerous goods drivers licence and gas fitting qualifications. Now only one piece of equipment and one person was required to complete the task.

Initially, Gas Equipment Solutions provided services in outback locations, but quickly expanded due to demand.

The next tanker incorporated further modifications and innovations.

  1. An additional hose reel was installed on the tanker to provide customer vapour supply whilst the recertification work was in progress.
  2. A hydraulic hose reel was installed allowing the use of hydraulic tools 30 metres from the tanker. Tools included hydraulic rattle guns, hydraulic drills and hydraulic blower fans that do not require hot work permits for operation.
  3. A truck crane was installed on the tanker – used as a vent stack, levelling up of tanks, removal of manways, etc.

Further administrative services were/are provided by Gas Equipment Solutions by way of direct input of data into the customers’ asset database.

Three LP Gas tankers, incorporating all features, are now in operation. These are strategically placed in capital cities to service the entire Australian market.
